Everett Mountain 6-11-2006![]()
Hiked the great and mighty Mount Washington Massachusetts Today, No sorry, not the 6288' Mount Washington NH, but rather the 2608' Mount Everett which is the highest point in the town of Mount Washington MA (and indeed, SW Massachusetts). The whole thing took about 1:15 - 1:30 I climbed the Race Brook trail, which went by the famous Race Brook waterfall. At around 2000' The trail meets the Appalachian trail and ascends to the summit. This hike was rather pleasant and interesting. It was not very hard, but I found the first 15-20 minutes hard because I was very tired. The waterfall was very impressive, especially with all the recent rain. Once I got onto the AT the climb grew much steeper and rockier. IE I felt more at home! Towards the top the vegetation became much shorter and more interesting. Dwarf Pines which were supposedly 230+ years old dotted the area. When I got to the top The remains of and old fire tower stood (4 concrete footings). I got a good view of NW CT, and the Catskills. The short trees obscured the northern view. It was quite cold and windy on the top. The hike netted me a total of 1850 vertical feet, a little more than Monadnock, however it was not nearly as rigorous. Click Here for the Hike Map
