Mount Greylock 3-25-06
Thunderbolt trail "doesn't fuck around"; it gets right to the point. It is very steep and fairly short (2mi according to the sign, but it’s actually less) 2300+ Vertical. I managed it in 1:17 which is good I think. The other time I hiked it with Laura it took much longer. Some other people my age (pack of 3 noisy guys). I passed them on the way up but we met up at the thunderbolt lodge and got a fire going in one of the stoves. Stuck around the summit for about 1:30 or so then descended. Took 53 minutes to get down. Thunderbolt is by far the steepest trail I have ever gone up. I chose Greylock this weekend over Equinox in VT because the weather was supposed to be poor, and I’ve been up Greylock so many times I didn’t care if the view was destroyed. Turns out the view was very clear and the weather very mild. In other words the weatherman lied! Equinox is about 3000 vertical BTW. Click Here for the Hike Map
