Carrigan 10-8-06![]()
A more perfect day you cant even imagine. Views were Crystal Clear, no wind, nothing. It doesn't get much better than this. started at 7:45 hit the summit in 2:28 not bad for 5 miles. Trail started off flat and then went at a steady mean grade. Total climbed vertical was 3400' I passed 3 groups of 2 hikers on my way up, one only 15 mins from the summit. I had the summit to myself for the first 10 mins. It was kind of hot when I climbed so cooling off at the summit was a most welcomed feeling. I stuck around the summit for 50 mins to soak in the AMAZING VIEWS and chit chat with the other hikers who finally caught up to me. On my descent I ran into a very large number of hikers in a 45 min block then virtually no more. One of the first groups was from Ashfield MA, right next to my hometown (small world). Since I was the first to head down all day everyone kept asking me "how far to the top??". I reached my car in ironically the same amount of time it took me to climb (despite stopping and chatting a dozen times). A very great hike, You can see almost all of the Whites from the summit except the ones behind Washington and the Franconias. Signal ridge which is 15 mins before the summit is a sneaky "false summit". Click Here for the Hike Map
