Trail(s) Taken Hancock Notch - Cedar Brook - Hancock Loop

p>My second hike of the "marathon peak bagging" day. The trailhead for the Hancocks is at the Hairpin turn on the kanc. This hike starts off easy because it follows a historic logging rail grade (which is I am sad to say in dismal condition). This rail grade is very interesting, all the rock cuts are chiseled, and not blasted. There is even a boulder which was cut down to size by sledges (no picture.. D'oh!). The grade trail is abandoned when you turn onto cedar brook trail. This trail is exceptionally evil because of all the nasty little brook crossing. Finally you take a turn to the Hancock spur trail. This trail was very exciting for me because I encountered people who recognized me from my website! The woman immediately recognized me (she was in a group with two others). We talked briefly then I had to leave because of time restraints. I did not get their names at the time. I reached the fork where I could choose south peak or north peak. I guessed and chose south peak (right). The trail turned steep immediately. I reached the limited view summit and  proceeded along the ridge to the main (south) summit. Things turned cold along this path and I was forced to add layers. As I came close to the summit I began encountering more hikers. When I reached my goal I was excited to see the people Who recognized me were there (they obviously went left at the fork). They were pleased to see me as I was to them. I took their picture and my own and took some more pictures at the kind of limited vista. I got their names (mentioned below in the picture) and bid them farewell. The descent was nightmarish with poor footing, but I made it alive. The rest was just me hiking what I had already hiked before but in reverse! Trip was 9.8 miles. took 4:30. Total vertical gain was 2650'
