Osceola mountains 10-14-06![]()
Osceola is hands down the easiest 4000 footer to date (east Osceola was harder). nice long path with really easy grades. I started at 4:33 am This was my first of three trips for the day. As I ascended in the dark occasionally I caught glimpses of lights down in Waterville valley. When I reached the summit twilight was upon me. I took some pictures of the pre-sunrise then proceeded to East Osceola. The trail turns steep in the inter-Osceola area. I encountered a tiny amount of snow along the path. I reached East Osceola in time to catch the sunrise but the view was pretty badly blocked by trees. There was a very nice view to the north along the trail just below E.O. Summit. I returned to Osceola in full sunlight and took more pictures from the outlook. The descent was nice and easy except there was ice in places. I did take a nasty fall on one stealth-ice rock which was well below the ice altitude (which is why it stealth attacked me). Total time was 4:18. Total Vertical was 2950' Total miles was about 8.4.
