Ah, the biggest mountain for hundreds of miles! I got what I wanted today, cold and high speed winds. 31.7 degrees at the summit with winds sustained at 55-60 mph and some gusts getting near 70. Glad I came prepared. I hiked up the headwall this time which was not nearly as steep as I had hoped, but it did have it's moments! Took me longer than last time cause I doddled around a lot, not to mention I had to do fun things like treats hot spots before the blistered up (I beat them this time. It was 100% fog from the headwall on up. I was the first hiker to hit the summit this time. My hands were numb at the top from the 10 degree wind-chill. On my way down I encountered many hikers ill prepared for the weather ahead and warned them. It did not help that as I went down the mountain I stripped back down to shorts and a t-shirt giving the impression that I made it fine (many people commented in this) I would always point to my overstuffed backpack and let them know that the 45 degree headwall temperature felt like summer compared to the top. I purchased a shirt at the summit and a sticker at the base. Total vertical: 4200 total trip time was exactly 6 hours (EXACTLY my clock beeped 6:00 when I turned my keys off in my car in the morning and 12 when I turned them on when I left.. eerie!) What an experience! I enjoyed this even with the lack of view! Click Here for the Hike Map
