High Point NJ 12-10-2006![]()
My first recorded hike in NJ (amazingly I hiked devils half acre before this in like.. 2000 near Neshanic Station!) This is the Highest Point in NJ hence the name (its really called Kittatinny Mountain). It stands at a mere 1806' but its quite prominent for the area although it is "merely" the high point of a ridge. Its practically in NY and PA and is VERY close to I-84 (and cheap NY exit 1 gas (which is really in NJ). Anyways, my friend Eugene and I parked near one of the lakes in a parking lot called park ridge road. We bushwhacked to NJ-RTE 23 then follwoed a ski trail to the main road. We bushwhacked again up to another road then followed a path to a vista where we hooked on to the AT. That was followed to a small col. Then we were horrified to find the AT does not in fact go to the summit so we bushwhacked to the road leading to the summit finding a small rock cut and some deer remains. From there we followed the road a bit. Eugene followed the road up and I bushwhacked to the obelisk where pictures were taken and merriment ensued. After soaking in the quite clear views we followed a similar route minus some bushwhacking back to the car. Click Here for the Hike Map
