Dorset 12-2-06![]()
Dorset was an interesting hike, namely by virtue of the fact that most of the route was along old logging roads, and very little was on actual trails. No views really opened up on this mountain, not only because of the abundance of fog at the top but also the lack of clearings. I began at 6:30am at the end of tower road. I could only go as far as the last house, but someone with a 4x4 or high clearance could make it much further (up to the camp). I followed the old road up to a camp where I turned right and proceeded up a moderate climb which ended at a col with a small cairn. At this point it started to snow. I turned right here and followed the still in excellent shape road up a very light climb. Another fork presented itself, a moderate climb to the left and a hard climb to the right (both could bring you to the top). I took the right turn, then took another right turned after a while up a herd path marked with a cairn. This brought me to the fire tower ruins (no view) A left turn brought me on a trail over a ridge leading to the true summit where several trails intersected from the left. Ultimately by going straight I reached the summit canister. It was terribly cold and windy only at the top. There stood the ruins of a cabin. I took a slightly different route down the hill (bypassing the fire tower). I finished at 9:25. Click Here for the Hike Map
