Ellen 4-21-07![]()
My 3rd VT 4000 footer of the day. I started at the Ellen lodge and worked my way up the snow cat tracks which followed (mostly) the main lift line. I encountered several skiiers who had skinned their way up zipping down the mountain having a grand old time. One skier who caught up to me on the climb explained to me what skins are (basically traction carpets for the bottom of the skis so you can climb up the slopes). After a while we went our own seperate ways (I follwoed the snow cat tracks, he took the direct route). The temps were amazing... 70 degrees! I was sweating like crazy even in shorts and a T shirt. When I reached the top I was greeted by the skier who I climbed halfway up with. I went over to the true summit to find the summit sign at my feet! The skier and I talked a bit and soaked in the views before he took off down the steep lift line trail. I watched as he skillfully carved his way down through the kinda corn-like wet snow. I soon followed after him snowshoe-skiing the way down. I reached the base in a little under an hour. Click Here for the Hike Map
